The National Park is situated in the Kumaon-Himalayan lower regions of Uttarakhand, India. Jim Corbett National Park was set up in 1936, making it India's oldest national park. Initially setup in order to conserve India’s royal and endangered animal species of tiger, the park prides itself on being the first site to launch the Project Tiger in 1973.
The place borrows its name from the legendary hunter turned conservationist and naturalist - Jim Corbett. Jim Corbett filled in as the Colonel in the British Indian Army. He was well known as a tracker of many man-eater tigers and leopards and was generally adulated by local people in Kumaon. Jim Corbett played a colossal part in the foundation of this tiger reserve.
